The box appears original, is marked “01 – 00040” and has the serial number written in blue ink pen on the lid and one end. Two corners of the lid are torn at the seams. The box is stained and has pieces of packing tape stuck to it. With #1744451 a two piece tan cardboard box marked “01 – 00040” on the lid is provided. The box is in Very Good to Fine condition for being a 1944 pistol box. The box appears original, but has no markings beyond “01 – 00040”. One corner of the lid is torn at the seam. The manual and grip safeties work properly. Mechanics: The actions function correctly. Overall, these handguns rate in about Excellent condition. The markings are clear with the exception of the Ordnance stamps which are light. There is fine checkering on the face of the triggers and the hammer spurs. There are a few very light handling marks and dried oil or other preservative. Overall Condition: These handguns retain about 99+% of its metal finish. There is no erosion in the bore, but tooling marks visible from when the barrel was manufactured. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.īore Condition: The bore is gray and the rifling is shallow and sharp. Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered brown plastic with a ring around each grip screw. The rear sights are a square notch set in a dovetail in the slide. Sights / Optics: The front sights are a small serrated ramp mounted on the slide. The inside of pistol ending in 451 is the same only the left grip is marked “19” in place of 17. the left grip is marked “20” with a “K” and a star. The magazine accompanying this pistol has an “L” on the top of the floorplate ahead of the magazine body.The inside of pistol ending in 450: the right grip is marked “17” with a “K” and a star. At the top right trigger bow an “O” is marked and there is a “W” at the right rear of the trigger bow. 1744450” is marked behind the slide lock lever hole and ahead of that hole the frame is marked “M1911 A1 U.S. The Ordnance Department’s Crossed Cannons emblem is on the right side of the frame just ahead of the trigger pivot pin.
